First Official Green Lantern Trailer

So today’s a big day for Comic Book fans, the day where we finally get to see The Green Lantern in all of his CGI glory. At first look, it looks quite alright, a similar feeling to how I got when I first saw the Iron Man 2 trailer. Let me know what you think of this DC production scheduled for release June 17, 2011.

The Inception Trailer in Acapella is Awesome

inception (1)

As most of you will know, I adore Inception and throughly believe it’s an incredible film. I must admit that before the movie came out, I didn’t think they movie would pull off well with it’s crazy ideas and very random trailer. However now YouTuber Googenheimer has created a superb acapella version of the trailer and it’s definitely a must see if you’re a fan of Inception.

Awesome.

Shogun 2 Total War looks Incredible … In Pre-Alpha Stage

Shogun 2 Logo

PC gamers amongst you will know of the Total War series. This series of real time strategy games by ‘The Creative Assembly’ dates back as far as 2001 and well let’s face it, it’s pretty much Age of Empires ramped up with crack cocaine and steroids. But scheduled for release next year is the next release in the long running series, Shogun 2 Total War. The first of their “Battle Report” trailers has just been released and my oh my have they out done themselves on this one.

Shogun 2 Total War is set in 16th Century Japan during the aftermath of the Onin War. During said era, you take command of one of nine warring factions and lead their to victory through espionage, diplomacy and of course, conquest. The new engine being developed for Shogun 2 allows for an excess of 56,000 soldiers to be on screen at any one time quite a milestone in game development if you ask me. Shogun 2 Total War is due for release sometime next year, 2011.

Latest iPod Nano Advert Released

ipod nano

Earlier today Apple announced the launch of the latest in their iPod Nano range. Along with the updated iPod Touch, firmware updates and Apple TV, the Cupertino company released the first nifty little ad for the bite sized music device. On first impressions I do love the new design, it looks really good and this definitely appeals a lot more to me than their last attempt at a clip on player, the shuffle. One biggest gripe however comes with the fact that most people use the Nano when they’re jogging, in the gym, travelling around and a lot of the times you just need buttons to provide a tactile feedback. I’m not sure how easy this would be to use if you had to handle this while running or if you travelling on a crowded metropolitan city train.

So what do you think of the new Nano?

Sucker Punch: Girls, Guns, Dragons, Nazis, Samurais etc etc etc

More trailers to come out of the San Diego Comic Con this year was Zack Snyder’s latest project, Sucker Punch. The trailer looks crazy with a mish-mash of all the things a teenage dude would be into. The plot goes like this:

"Sucker Punch" is an epic action fantasy that takes us into the vivid imagination of a young girl whose dream world provides the ultimate escape from her darker reality. Unrestrained by the boundaries of time and place, she is free to go where her mind takes her, but her incredible adventures blur the lines between what's real and what is imaginary...with potentially tragic consequences.

DC Universe - Wish this was a Movie

This 6 and a bit minute trailer is what directors like Christopher Nolan and co. should be looking at creating. The ultimate superhero film. Yes the New Avengers has been cast and scheduled for release in two years time but this trailer brings a new angle on the DC universe that won’t have been seen on the big screen. Either way, I hope you enjoy the trailer to the new DC Universe Online game trailer. (NOTE: Batman’s War Armour rocks!)

The Social Network: Full Trailer

markzuckerberg

There’s simply no getting around the popularity of Facebook. The number of users based in the social networking site is quickly approaching half a billion users with thousands more flocking to the site everyday. Just through mobile usage alone, the number of users is hitting the site fly clear of 100 million users already. But as we’re all not itching to find out, how did this all start? The Social Network tells precisely this.

I’ll say it now and only now. I will watch this film. But not because I want to. I don’t believe for one second that this’ll be even a half decent film nor that it’ll keep me engrossed for the duration of the film. Fundamentally the film is about the creation of a website and that alone, sorry but I just can’t get behind it. Nobody wants to see a bunch of geeks create a website unless it’s some Michael Cera comedy written by Judd Apatow co-starring Steve Carell and a bit of boob thrown in.

So why will I end up watching it? Curiosity. Plain and simply there is no other reason for why but that I want to see how it turns out. To turn on a metaphor, it’s like watching “the shit hit the fan”, nobody wants to be there when it happens, but everyone still imagines to themselves how “the shit” would hit .. said fan.

The Social Network is due for release on 1st October 2010.

PES 2011 In-Depth Trailer

20100407170118

The World Cup in South Africa has finally drawn to a close and I’m sure a lot of you will be suffering a footballing hangover. But for those of you who still can’t quite get enough of the action, Konami have released a full 6 minute in depth HD trailer of their biggest franchise Pro Evolution Soccer.

PES 2011 is looking like the best new instalment of the franchise yet with new 360 degree controls and over 1000 new motions. The tactical screens look a lot more in depth and comes up to par with it’s ancient rival FIFA. They’ve also put more of an emphasis on not just pulling off tricks or one off moves but linking them into multiple feints, dummys, step overs etc into a more fluid attack. So expect to have Messi pick up the ball and maze his way to a goal from the halfway line.

Check out the awesome new trailer

The full list of new features are summarised quite nicely on the wiki page too:

  • Total Control - 360-degree passing ratio has been enhanced improving the control over every pass, shot, throw-in, through ball and lofted through balls. This allows users to pass the ball into space, and move their play with total freedom. Players must precisely weight their passes and second-guess the runs of their team-mates in order to exploit their movement. Players can even apply pressure on opponents to force them off the ball.

  • Shot and Stamina Gauge - The gauge details the player's exact level of fitness. Constantly sprinting will affect the player's movements and will have an adverse affect on his stats, with passes going astray coupled with an overall loss of pace.

  • New Defender AI - Defenders will now hold their positions naturally, no longer chasing any ball that enters their area; preferring to close down the attacker and force them into a mistake.

  • Animation and Player Physics - In-game animation has been totally reworked, with the players enjoying fluid, natural movements, with more realistic acceleration and inertia then previous games. The physicality between players is also improved, which was a priority requested in the online PES forums. Jostling and blocking now looks more impressive, while there is a larger variety of convincing tackling styles. Ambient animation also adds immensely to the in-game atmosphere, as players behave realistically when off the ball, and walk and run with a variety of individual styles.

  • Speed of Play - With a new level of control, the pace of play varies depending on situations. The game will burst into life as counter-attacks come into play, but players can dictate the pace via slow build up or exploiting available space to surge forward. It is harder to make long runs from midfield, and successful play will depend on making quick passes to make room.

  • Aesthetics - Facial animation has been enhanced from PES 2010. Also, PES 2011 includes over 1000 all-new animations which have been recreated from scratch using over 100 hours of motion captured footage. Every aspect of player movement has been reworked, with more organic runs, turns, throw-ins, tackles, and interaction. The way players speed up and slow down is also more natural, while replays display elements of motion blur that bring your saved goals to vivid life.

  • Tactical and Strategy - An all new "Drag and Drop" mechanism that can be used in every aspect of team management, not just substitutions or formation changes. These settings are also animated to promote better understanding of the plays that have been altered.

  • Feint settings - PES 2011 allows users to map their favourite move sequences including a wide range of subtle skills, feints and turns, to the right analogue stick.

  • Master League Online - For the first time in the series, Master League will be playable online. Users will be able to play against each other with their own built squads.

  • Enhanced Edit Mode - Pro Evolution Soccer 2011's Edit mode has been improved vastly to give the players complete control over the game's content and its appearance. Players are no longer limited to a number of player/team slots. They will be able to create virtually unlimited number of players and teams. Also, players will be able to create stadiums, custom league and cup competitions. Everything created by the player will be fully customizable. Stadiums can have different turfs, capacities, nets, roofs and other features. Created league and cup competitions can have their own formats (Group, Knockout, etc.), emblems, which teams and countries can participate and much more.

  • MyPES - Players can now customize the game to their liking. They can change the appearance of the menus, change the menu music and much more.

  • Pro Evolving Pro Evolution Soccer now contains a mode called Pro Evolving where players are updated weekly based on their performance from their previous fixture, appearance, clothing as well as status (e.g. if injured), although it can be turned off and on. It is very similar to FIFA's Live Season.

The game is scheduled for release on October 22nd later this year. Will definitely be looking forward to getting my hands on this version of the franchise as I pretty much do every year.

Sneak Peak at latest Studio Ghibli Masterpiece

borrower-arrietty If you know me or you’ve been following my blog, you’ll know that I’m a massive fan of Hayao Miyazaki and his work at Studio Ghibli. The latest release from the legendary animation studios, The Borrower Arrietty is due to be released in Japan on July 17, 2010. Film creator Hayao Miyazaki is handing over the directorial reigns to a new and upcoming Hiromasa Yonebayashi for his directorial debut in this one and will be taking a supervisory role for the film.

The film takes it’s inspiration from Mary Norton’s British classic novel, The Borrowers, of which I grew up reading the books and watching the TV series. So this one will definitely be one on the must-see list.

Here are two sneak peaks into the next Studio Ghibli animation.

Will definitely be looking forward to seeing this one.

If you play football on a console or on a PC then there’s only one of two gaming franchises you can take up. You’re either a PES fan or a FIFA fan. I am a PES fan and anyone who knows me knows this fact. Following up on yesterday’s batch of new game trailer releases, Konami has shown off it’s latest addition to the series with PES 2011. It sports better controls, more accurate animations as well as a whole slew of game play features such as tussling and new tricks as well as the new pass meter.

Star Wars: The Old Republic ~ Awesome Cinematic Alderaan Trailer

star wars old republic e3 trailer Bioware’s new MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic has long been in development but this new cinematic trailer will surely get every good Star Wars fan pumped up for the new game. With the game being confirmed for a Spring 2011 release date, Bioware showed off an E3 2010 trailer exclusive.

Click the jump for the epic trailer.

The Old Republic does not dramatically diverge from traditional MMORPG gameplay. Players control an avatar in third-person view, interacting with the various elements of the game world and other players and will have their own starship as an in-game base. It has also been revealed that PvP will occur in warzones, either Jedi vs Sith or Republic vs Empire.[2] However, BioWare intends to put a large emphasis on the story element of the game, something that the company feels is lacking in other MMORPGs. New characters are required to choose to align with one of two factions waging war on each other—the Galactic Republic or the Sith Empire.[9] Several gameplay elements differ between the factions, such as story and available classes.[9]

If only this was game play footage and not cinematic footage then that would actually have blown my mind. However I’m sure if you’re a Star Wars fan, you’ll definitely be looking forward to playing this game.

Superb Game Trailer: Deus Ex: Human Revolution

deus ex Sometimes you see a game trailer which absolutely blows your mind away. Sometimes it’s the music or the graphical presentation or often even just the sheer “epic-ness” of said trailer that blows you away. Either way this trailer of Deus Ex: Human Revolution released for the upcoming E3 2010 event, looks like one of those trailers. I admit, I’ve only played the first game for a short amount of time and it never really influenced me to a judgment of any kind. However after seeing this trailer released by Eidos Montreal in co-production with Square Enix, it looks like a game I’d definitely be interested in seeing more of. Clearly the trailer takes full advantage of the Square Enix method of CGI production but hey, cool armour and big blazing guns … sign me up.

Set in a dystopian world during the 2050s, the central plot follows rookie United Nations Anti-Terrorist Coalition agent JC Denton, as he sets out to combat terrorist forces, which have become increasingly prevalent in a world slipping ever further into chaos. As the plot unfolds, Denton becomes entangled in a deep and ancient conspiracy, encountering fictional recreations of organizations such as Majestic 12, the Illuminati, and the Hong Kong Triads throughout his journey.  [2000]                                     Source: Deus Ex Wiki

Invisible War takes place twenty years after Deus Ex, in a world being rebuilt after a catastrophic event called The Collapse. Following a terrorist attack that destroys the city of Chicago, the player assumes the role of Alex D, a trainee at the fictional Tarsus Academy, whose support is sought by several organizations. As the game progresses, the player learns of conspiratorial factions which seek to drastically change the world. Invisible War was designed to allow player choice in both plot and gameplay, with branching plot lines and emergent gameplay elements. This freedom of choice was widely praised by critics.     [2003]                                                     Source: Deus Ex Wiki
